Food Bank FAQ

Mon–Fri, 10 AM–4 PM
24/7 Option: Our outdoor porch is available any time, day or night. No registration required—it’s open to anyone in the community.

Anyone in Washington State can register to shop at our Community Food Bank. There are no income requirements or residency restrictions. If you’re traveling from off-island, we recommend calling ahead at 206.842.7621 to confirm hours and availability.

Important: Active volunteers cannot use the food bank. If you’re currently volunteering with us, please speak with staff about your needs.

Registration is simple and required for indoor shopping:

  1. Visit during our open hours (Mon-Fri, 10 AM–4 PM)
  2. Fill out a brief registration form with basic information (name, address, phone number, household size)
  3. Shop immediately after registering

 

Each household member can be included on one registration form.

No. Our food bank is available to anyone in Washington State, regardless of income.

You can shop once per week during our regular hours (Mon–Fri, 10 AM–4 PM).
Our 24/7 outdoor porch is available anytime for additional support.

  • First visit: Just yourself. We’ll help you register.
  • Return visits: We appreciate it if you bring your own bags, but we have bags available if needed.

We offer a variety of nutritious foods including:

  • Fresh produce
  • Proteins (meat, eggs, beans)
  • Dairy products
  • Grains and bread
  • Canned and shelf-stable items
  • Personal care items (when available)

 

Selection varies based on donations and deliveries.

Yes! Please let our food bank staff know about any dietary needs, allergies, or preferences. We’ll do our best to accommodate your family’s needs with available inventory.

Social Services FAQ

  • Most services: You must live on Bainbridge Island to receive case management, community care coordination, and adult mental health services.
  • Child & Youth Mental Health: Your child must be enrolled in the Bainbridge Island School District (residency on the island is not required).

No. We provide social services to the whole community based on need, not income. Our services are available to anyone who needs support. However, some financial services provided do include income requirements such as BIMPRD or Warm Home Funds.

Yes. All counseling and social services are confidential and follow professional ethical guidelines and privacy laws.

Our services are provided free of charge or on a sliding scale based on your ability to pay. Cost will never be a barrier to receiving the support you need.

Volunteering FAQ

Yes! We welcome volunteers and have a variety of opportunities available. Visit our Volunteer Opportunities page or call 206.842.7621 to learn more.

If you’re currently receiving social services assistance or using the food bank, you must wait at least 12 months after your last service before volunteering. This policy helps us maintain appropriate boundaries and ensure volunteers can focus on serving others.

Active volunteers cannot use our social services assistance or food bank. If you’re a volunteer experiencing hardship, please speak with our staff about your situation.

Giving & Donations FAQ

There are several ways to support Helpline House from anywhere:

  1. Amazon Wish List
    Purchase needed items directly from our Amazon Wish List and have them shipped to us.
  2. Online Donation
    Make a financial contribution here. Monetary donations allow us to purchase exactly what’s needed.
  3. Host a Virtual Food Drive
    Organize a virtual food drive through your workplace, school, or community group. Learn how.

Generally, we need:

  • Canned proteins (tuna, chicken, beans)
  • Cooking oils and condiments
  • Personal hygiene items
  • Diapers and baby supplies

 

Please note: We cannot accept opened, expired, or homemade food items.

Please only drop off donations during our open hours (Mon–Fri, 10 AM–4 PM) so we can properly receive and store items. Call ahead for large donations: 206.842.7621.

Yes! Helpline House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization (EIN: 91-0902503). Your contribution is tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. You’ll receive a receipt for all monetary donations.
